Wordpress, The Great and Powerful - WRITERS WANTED

Let's not be coy with this, I haven't posted anything in months. I've been busy as I'm sure most of you all know life is often complicated and time consuming which has limited me in most respects to never posting. I'm also lazy which is a contributing factor. And I hate blogger which doesn't help at all. I mentioned a few months ago about seriously considering moving my blog to wordpress. I still have full intent to do so and I've been slowly working on the site. I'd like it to be up in full by mid February or early March. Now before I get to the Writers Wanted portion of this, you know me I must ramble first.

Of course its not just a matter of moving the blog from one platform to another, it is also a matter of discarding what doesn't work and focusing the site more. This blog started out of my boredom but has attracted, to my great surprise, several talented independent filmmakers. Indie films are basically my second genre love to horror. I was one of those geeky kids who watched IFC (back when it wasn't full of shit) on Friday nights instead of going out like a normal teenager. I've always felt that while I love writing openly in my blog there's not much to distinguish it between every other horror blog on the internet these days. And since I want to help the Independent Horror Community more since I believe they offer more original and daring material I thought I'd just reinvent The Bleeding Dead from personal horror blog to a site for Indie Horror. Right now because I'm poor my URL will be accompanied by .wordpress.com but if all goes well and the site is actually viewed I'll start paying for a real domain name.

Now to the relevant part. I am starting school this semester and I still have a part time job that I depend on for rent and to pay for my pets. I have several films set to be reviewed for the new wordpress site but I want this to be more than a film review blog. I want it to have Independent horror news, books, games, all of it. I want it to be a Bloody Disgusting (alright maybe not that big) for Independent Horror films. That's where I seek out the help of you.

I'm looking for SEVERAL writers who are interested in being a contributor to The Bleeding Dead. How to contribute? It's easy! Send me an email (bleedingdead22@yahoo.com) with the position you are seeking in the subject line and a sample of your writing. Below is a list of the different types of writers I am seeking with a little more detail as to what I'm looking for. I'd prefer if the sample you sent me was in relevance to what your applying for but I'll honestly accept anything.

News Correspondent - Mostly press releases and articles about up and coming, films, books, games, pre-production etc in Independent Horror. Looking for 1-2 people.

Book Reviewer - I've gotten a few request to review people's novels in the past but since I can never find time to read my own books I'll never get to this. This is aimed for lesser known authors who feature their work on twitter. Also I would like a separate entry for kindle only novels and short stories as those are kind of the bulk of the independent writing community these days. Seeking 2 people for this.

Game Reviewer - Apps, computer games, etc. I'm don't have much knowledge when it comes to video gaming, I play but things like Sims and Mario Party. So this is really all on you and how you would like to approach it.

Event Correspondent - Not required to attend but to locate and provide information, for filmmakers and fans alike of upcoming screenings, film festivals, and other Independent horror related events. Only need 1 person for this.

For everyone else who just read this because they were bored I appreciate you taking the time and hope you follow me to wordpress. Happy Irrelevant Post Friday/Follow Friday. Whichever is relevant to you.

The Most Irrelevant Post Since Irrelevant Post Friday

If the title for this post and the title for the Midnight Son post got in a fight, I think this one would win on sheer stupidity. Though, it's hard to say as "How Do You Like Your Midnight Son Served?" is also fairly awful in the history of posts on this blog.

There's nothing more appropriate that to start an Irrelevant Post, that's on a Saturday mind you, than
an irrelevant comment about the titles of my blog posts going at it in a fight. This being the case as this post is really just random, most of it consisting of nonsense with a little of it actually having a purpose. I'll attend to the most important first and is that my computer went down this week and was just fixed today. I'm a little behind because of this, the two days I had off work I wasn't able to do anything constructive. But that being said it works now and I'll try to catch up as much as possible within the next week.

Next I do have five reviews for you that I plan on posting within this month and next. I also have three Horror Shorts, so check back on Sundays if you would like to read those. I'm basically just saying with this paragraph that I'm not dead, you know my usual excuse for absence.

I've been debating about whether or not I should share this with you but you are my followers (or random google people who find me because of The Human Centipede) and I believe your opinion is just as important, if not more, as mine. I'm really considering of moving this blog. No actually I am moving this blog. At this point its the self-host vs the second party. Blogger is getting on my nerves. No, actually Google is getting on my nerves. But it's also just a matter, to be quite frank, to shit or get off the pot. Meaning that I'm serious about my writing. Not so much reviews as I do love writing them but I really need to start focusing on what I'd like to do with my writing and my own site might help this. Having a self hosted site would acquire a lot of work but I ultimately feel that I can organize it better with one. There's a lot of other reasons for it that I wont go into but this is something I'd very much appreciate input on.

Finally for some REAL irrelevancy I saw Jurassic Park 3D and you should go see it because it kicks ass. I've actually never seen a real 3D film (excluding those red and blue glasses, and the Terminator Ride at Universal Studios), so I was tripping out a bit because I didn't realize that the intent of it now is to make you feel like your actually in the film less than watching it. There's been a lot talk about this and the direction that cinema is taking, the masses are eager but us nostalgic movie lovers are in denial. I draw from it that I LOVED seeing Jurassic Park in 3D but only because I have seen it before and it was insane to watch it like that, I wouldn't watch a newer film, necessarily, because it distracts. That's just my two cents.

Honestly the intent of this post was that I felt away from this blog because of the computer breaking and just wanted to post something, even if it's just an Irrelevant Post...on a Saturday. Regardless enjoy your day and go see the new Evil Dead or Jurassic Park. Or save your money and see Zombie's Lords of Salem this week. Either or, happy Irrelevant Post Friday. Saturday.

Women in Horror: Scream Queens Part III

As I did last year I wanted to do an expansion on my Scream Queens list and discuss a few woman in the genre I didn't include. As this week's list was about Final Girls I figured it was only fitting that I included it in this Irrelevant Post Friday. As this is now my third edition I feel that I'll make it a custom every year, although I may need to start dipping in my honorable mentions as I'm nearly caught up on Scream Queens. But here they are, the lovely actresses of our genre.

Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, Freddy Vs. Jason, American Mary)

The Canadian beauty is a well versed genre actress who's been present in the genre for most of her already lengthy career. Most noted is her sister werewolf film Ginger Snaps (one of my absolute favorites) and her brief but recognizable role in Freddy Vs Jason. As of current she's been gaining the long deserved critical acclaim for her lead role is the Soska's Sisters new horror film American Mary. Isabelle is a not only absolutely stunning to look at but she achieves talent in her all her roles, whether they be the low budget B's or the indie gems.

Sara Paxton (The Last House on the Left Remake, Shark Night 3D, The Innkeepers)

Sara Paxton is a recently new Scream Queen having only been present in the genre for a few years now. But of her films they are some of the more interesting to come out of studio horror as of recent. Paxton was appropriately cast as Mari in The Last House on the Left remake. Then went on to do the modern camp fest of Shark Night 3D, and Ti West's The Innkeepers as the abnormal, slightly dorky, employee of a haunted Inn. Paxton fluctuates between genres more familiarly seen in comedies and on television so its hard to say whether we'll see her more in horror or not. But the upcoming actress has a lot of attention her way as she's both pretty and verily acts. Hopefully she doesn't leave the genre entirely but even if so I consider her a verifiable Scream Queen for her small but recent presence in horror.

Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog, Creepshow, Swamp Thing)

There a few individuals who don't begin to lavishly drool when I mention Adrienne Barbeau, as she is a well known, desired genre actress from the eighties. Her films most commonly with her husband at the time John Carpenter, she played shared lead actress with Jamie Lee Curtis in his ghost story The Fog; where she was the sultry voice of a late night radio host. Of course though her most recognized genre film is Wes Craven's Swamp Thing, which featured a nude scene of Barbeau. But anyone to pass her off as a bimbo genre actress is a fault on their part, as she's more than talented having done theater and television. The former gaining her a Theater World Award and a Tony nomination. In the nineties she again provided her most recognized asset, her seductive voice, to the animated Batman series as Catwoman. The natural beauty even to this day looks incredible and continues to be present in the industry.

The original Top Five list may be found here. And the second edition here. Happy Woman In Horror Month/Irrelevant Post Friday/Follow Friday. Whichever is relevant to you.

Women in Horror Month

It's the first of February which means it's officially Women in Horror month. This year I decided to become an ambassador for WiHM as I'm a woman who loves this genre and was already planning to do something special for the month anyways. There's a little bit of a controversy that surrounds the month as not all agree with the objective of the non profit organization. That's alright, as everyone is entitled to their opinion on how we should go about equality. My intent with being an ambassador is simply to extol the contributions woman have made to this genre. As to me, gender, race, height, etc, is irrelevant. I'll watch your film regardless as I love all varieties and medium's of horror. Between Carpenter's male dominate The Thing to Carrie Green's novella Violet's Are Blue. And because of that I celebrate WiHM just as I celebrate Friday the 13th. Below is little bit more information on WiHM, including its donations and its mission.

Happy Irrelevant Post Friday/Follow Friday/Woman In Horror Month. Whichever is relevant to you.

THE MISSION

Women in Horror Recognition Month (WiHM) assists underrepresented female genre artists in gaining opportunities, exposure, and education through altruistic events, printed material, articles, interviews, and online support. WiHM seeks to expose and break down social constructs and miscommunication between female professionals while simultaneously educating the public about discrimination and how they can assist the female gender in reaching equality.

THE VISION

A world wherein all individuals are equally given the opportunity to create, share, and exploit their concept of life, pain, and freedom of expression.

IT’S THE YEAR 2012, NOT THE 1950’s. IS THERE REALLY A NEED FOR WiHM?

Absolutely. Otherwise, WiHM would not exist. Women are still not offered the same pay and opportunities as their male colleagues in many industries, particularly the arts. Discrimination runs rampant in Hollywood and its very difficult for females (even well-known actresses) to get their films funded by major studios. Statistics prove that women are still not offered the same opportunities as men due to an array of reasons from discrimination to female professionals accepting less than they are worth in order to receive the same opportunities as their male colleagues.

In other parts of the world, women are still stoned to death for speaking their minds, excommunicated when they are sexually violated, and not offered proper education.  Atrocities continue to happen that force the female gender to be subservient to a patriarchal system that tells them how to dress, who to marry, and what they should do with their lives. All discrimination must be exposed and obliterated for the female gender to truly achieve equality.

WiHM focuses on supporting the achievements of women who utilize the most extreme mirror available in storytelling: horror. We encourage women to explore and represent these horrors constructively, in positive environments.

WHAT ARE THE INDUSTRY’S STATISTICS?

In the 1920s there were no more than 10 women working in Hollywood in leadership positions.
In 2009, the mainstream film industry’s ratio was 16% women to 84% men.
In 2011, women made up only 5% of directors working in Hollywood.

SO WiHM IS ALL ABOUT WOMEN. WHAT ABOUT MEN?

WiHM was created with no exclusion. Men play a vital part in the female gender reaching equality. There are many male WiHM Ambassadors and artists who choose to assist and work with professional and talented underrepresented females. Be a guiding example of a male who respects both genders equally.

WHAT CAN THE PUBLIC DO TO ASSIST WOMEN?

Personal Responsibility.

We all must take personal responsibility in our beliefs, values, and actions. Participating in positive, constructive environments that encourage and provide a safe platform for women to share and explore is vital.

Education.

Education is essential for both genders. Knowledge is power. Understanding history and where that puts us today politically and socially demonstrates how we are interpreting each other and ourselves.

Work with Women.

Finding professional females to work with in leadership positions is one of the most important actions you can take to assist the movement. Don’t just work with a female because of her gender, work with her because she has a lot to bring to the table.

Banish social constrictions.

Stereotyping, judging, cattiness, competitiveness, comparing, and gossip. All of these actions hurt both men and women. We are all on our own path in life, careers, and personal relationships. Both genders are encouraged to play into these cultural expectations when they are young, which can create judgment of those who are different. Stop it.

Be a WiHM Ambassador.

Every February, WiHM Ambassadors host charity events (blood drives, film screenings, art shows), write blogs and articles, conduct interviews, and create videos and podcasts for mass consumption. All of these events and content specifically represent and assist the underrepresented female genre artist and are for philanthrpopic reasons only. No profit is made from WiHM, or the Viscera organization.

Participate.

Go to the events, read the articles, watch the videos. Be conscious of the fact that you are consuming different perspectives of a movement that is assisting a struggle that women have experienced for at least the last four thousand years: equality. We have incredible potential right now to destroy discrimination. It deserves your attention.

Donate.

Donate to WiHM. All funds go directly into the organization to improve the events, materials, and outreach. WiHM needs the support of the public.

Support other organizations.

Organizations such as CARE, Women for Women International, RAINN, and WIF. All these organizations work hard all year round to assist women in achieving equality. Visit their websites and educate yourself.

THE BOARD

The Board of Directors for WiHM is comprised of women from all facets of the horror film industry, including WiHM founder Hannah Forman, Debbie Rochon, Jovanka Vuckovic, Heidi Honeycutt, Jen and Sylvia Soska, and Shannon Lark.

THE ORGANIZATION

WiHM is a service provided by the Viscera Organization, a 501(c)3 non profit organization expanding opportunities for contemporary female genre filmmakers and artists by raising awareness about the changing roles for women in the film industry.

Slaughter, Stuff, and Eat

Member this?

Of course you do.

I just re-posted it over at Truly Disturbing for a special Retro Review. Nothing speaks of this Holiday more than the anti-drug christian killer turkey head film. The original unedited review is here. And by edited I mean I changed one word and removed a line.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Luke, I Am Your Father

I've been brewing over this for the past couple of weeks. But I'm convinced...that Sam from Trick 'R Treat is the offspring of Pumpkinhead.

Kay maybe not so much in looks...or maybe Sam's mom is in actuality the Alien from Alien

Okay maybe I'm not making any sense here but if....

SPOILER If you have not seen Prometheus you should just leave this post right the fuck now. Because I'm going to spoil all of it up in here.

If the Alien strand of DNA originates from the virus that Holloway got and he had sex with Shaw who births the first form of the face hugger who mutates into an even bigger face hugger, and then it mates with the alien who created humans, and it gives birth to the first strand of Alien DNA than I don't think it's much of a stretch for Pumpkinhead and the Alien to be Sam's parents okay? Dammit Ridley Scott.

In actuality I'm not sure if that's what happened. That's just sort of the conclusion I drew from the entire thing. I watch Prometheus last night for the first time and I kind of felt like:

Kind of felt slightly confused and a little bit jigged of a good film experience. And if your sitting there thinking okay what does Chase from House have to do with anything, it fits because I'm watching Dead Silence right now on AMC, kay? Which really doesn't fit either because Jason from True Blood is in Dead Silence, not Chase. But they both have Australian accents so it works in my mind.

Happy Irrelevant Post Friday/Follow Friday. Whichever is relevant to you.

Dear October,

Happy Irrelevant Post Friday. As like last month I couldn't go without posting at least one, albeit at the end of the month but here it is. There's not much to say as far things go, as you've noticed I've still been pretty much on hiatus with this blog and will continue to be for the most part. For a few reasons actually, which I'll explain.

As of the moment I hate my job. I plan on quitting in the near future and finding a better job but honestly I don't want to be a server for the entirety of my life. I love writing, and not reviews. Don't mistake I enjoy doing those too but my real dream in life is not to be the next Roger Ebert (can you imagine??) but hopefully something along the lines of the next Clive Baker. I do want to be a fiction writer and hopefully not a struggling one, but I'll honestly settle for struggling writer over struggling server. This being my dream I need to start writing my own stuff again because I'll tell you as of right now one hundred percent of my writing goes towards this blog and the stuff at TD.

Also when I started this blog it's because Netflix decided to sit on a giant stick and became stuck up technology snobs who cared only about money. Basically I liked writing reviews on Netflix but they took away the friends page which made it hard to do that, and also without much purpose. Anyways back then I only really wrote reviews when I felt I had something different to say about the film than everyone else. And often times now I find myself forcing to write a review (Psycho II) and I don't like doing that. Because then I'm just saying to just say something. I prefer when my writing has more purpose behind it. It senseless for me to write a review about a movie I was indifferent too.

Out of all this though please don't take that I'm leaving this blog in anyway. Of course not, I love being part of this community and I love writing reviews. I'll still post reviews but they may or may not be on a weekly basis. TD reviews will still be the same (twice a month, next one is tomorrow) and I'll keep features like the horror shorts. I'm not doing the top five lists for next month because it's too much work and will distract from my original writing. Again I hope all my followers stay with me and check back regularly. I will try to get at least three reviews to you a month as well as the TD. And regardless without the Top Five Lists I'll still have cool stuff since it's Halloween. But again thanks for your support and for reading, if I didn't have you I'd of quit this long ago.

Happy Irrelevant Post Friday/Follow Friday. Whichever is relevant to you.

How Do You Like Your Midnight Son Served? DVD? VOD? Or Digital?

I believe that title has potential of being the worst title post I've ever come up with. I do apologize.

If you don't remember back in October I wrote a review for the film Midnight Son. If you have never read the review and don't care too I was able to view the independent horror film at The Mile High Horror Film Festival and I loved it. I found it to be a unique and beautiful film, unlike anything spewed of the vampire genre. It also made my TDHorror list last year as the best film of 2011. If my opinion however doesn't convince you this should. Anyways Matt Compton, the producer for the film, asked me to post something so that people know the film is available for purchase in several different forms and of course I'm more than happy to support. But first...

MIDNIGHT SON is the story of Jacob, a young man confined to a life of isolation, due
to a rare skin disorder that prevents him from being exposed to sunlight. His world opens
up when he meets Mary, a local bartender, and falls in love. Tragically, Jacob’s actions
become increasingly bizarre as he struggles to cope with the effects of his worsening
condition. Forced by the disease to drink human blood for sustenance, he must control his
increasingly violent tendencies as local law enforcement narrow their focus on him as a
suspect in a series of grisly murders.

The film is available for purchase at Amazon for DVD and Digital Download. You may also get it at Walmart, if out and about for the shopping purposes. You may also get it on VOD, if that sort of thing appeals to you. As you know me I'm a hardcore old school DVD/VHS kind of girl. VOD platforms that carry the movie include DirecTV, Time Warner, and Charter. Digital platforms that carry the film include iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, CinemaNow, Playstation Store, Xbox Marketplace, and YouTube.

But really Midnight Son NEEDS to be seen. It's such a beautiful film in presence and that last shot. I wish I had a still of it for my still collection at the bottom of the blog. Please help support this independent film and let it be known. The film deserves a cult following at the least, if not an apology by all distributors who turned down the offer to give the film support. Really.

Obscure Horror Film Contest Winner

INSERT: If you don't care for my justification and would like to skip my ramblings which are longer than any of my reviews I'd recommend scrolling down right before the the picture of The Perfect House DVD to see the winner. Who's name and winning film is in bold.

I was apprehensive towards participating in this DVD giveaway because I honestly didn't believe that anyone would enter. That was basically a truth come Tuesday when the contest had been up for twenty four hours and not a single pending comment waiting for me. However, with the biggest help from a few twitter people and one of my favorite filmmaker friends, Skip Shea, I was able to get the contest out. Mostly though I feel a lot of people found it from PromoteHorror.com which is an amazing site every blogger/horror fan needs to follow as it gives you updates on all scales of horror. In films, books, contests, and blogs.

When I started the contest I didn't put much thought into how I was going to judge this by obscurity as I mean it could be different things to different people. To avoid controversy over the word were going to use the fourth definition from the merriam-webster.com online dictionary which says that Obscure means relatively unknown. Fair enough? It dividends into how obscure this is. This process is also absurdly difficult for only four films but how else can I make it fair? Basically there's four categories of how Obscure a film is and I rate them based on the information I get via IMDB and maybe Wikipedia, but I don't trust that latter all too much.

First Level - Casual Movie Obscure
This applies to everyone and there moms. The normal average movie goer who sees the big films in theaters and watches the mindless spew, horror or non. In this category most any slightly unknown or not-nominated-for-a-Oscar-Indie film would be considered 'obscure'. People who consider Trick 'r Treat Obscure.

Second Level - Casual Horror Obscure
This is for the very casual fans who's filmography has expanded about as far as Halloween and anything they watch as of recently. Those who like the genre but are not heavy addicts. They've seen the Final Destination films and all the big name slashers back in the day but probably haven't seen Maniac, which would register as Obscure to them.

Third Level - Genre Lover Obscure
This applies to genre lovers like myself but those who are still knee deep in obscure film watching. They've seen Cannibal Holocaust and a few seventies exploitation flicks like Blood Splattered Bride. They also watch foreign films but their list is still fairly low. They likely have heard of a lot of weird films but haven't seen them all. It takes a bit more effort to find an Obscure film for them to watch but not impossible.

Fourth Level - Tarantino Obscure
This is for the avid Obscure horror film watchers who seek out Obscure horror on a daily basis. They go into those weird shops that sell VHS and Records and the guy behind the counter kind of looks like the guy from Titanic in the smiley face shirt. They're knowledge is endless like Tarantino's and they've seen the shit that is too grotesque for the most normal psyche. Basically the only thing they haven't seen is a few illegal films that they are trying to get their hands on and anything short of a snuff film. This is the obscurity that's likely too difficult for me to even reference a film.

The Stone Tape (1972)

~The film cannot be found on Netflix, at all.
~ UK based film
~ Made for TV British Horror film
~ Full wikipedia page

Rating: Third Level Obscure, the film seems fairly unknown for the most part but has had a lot of positive reception to those who've seen it. It's not available on Netflix and there's no one I recognized in the film. However the Wikipedia page has an entire category that discusses it's cultural significance which makes me hesitant whether it's actually a little known cult favorite. Really good recommendation and a definite competitor.

The Sentinel (1977)

~ I've heard of this before.
~ Chris Sarandon, Burgess Meredith, Ava Gardener, and John Carradine are second level and third level recognizable names.
~ Christopher Walken
~ #46 on Bravo's Scariest Movie Moments

Rating: Second Level Obscure, mostly because as I have heard of it before and so have a lot of horror fans that I know of. Not a bad recommendation though and a interesting movie that I can watch on Netflix.

The Horror Show aka House III (1989)

~ Available on Netflix
~ Lance Henriksen, an obscure horror film actor of some sort but not an obscure actor, or we could just say that he likes to star in really bad horror films that never get a following because they suck. But not back then so I believe it's invalid.
~ Movies that go by two names are always a good thing
~ Sean S. Cunningham is a producer
~ Also known as La Casa 7, making it an Evil Dead sequel
~  Not officially part of the House series as it has no plot relation to the prior two films

Rating: Third Level Obscure, I wasn't sure about this one as I've passed House III so many times on Netflix Instant Watch that it clouds my judgement of whether it's widely known or not. The bigger horror names behind it make me weary of such a rating but the three different names and tie ins to two franchises that have nothing to do with the film itself always suggest a low budget shove under the rug film. I'd say it's a fair enough genre lover obscure but only just barely makes it.

Something Evil (1972)

~ Little known Steven Spielberg directed horror film
~ No Netflix
~ Made for TV
~ Can't buy it on Amazon

Rating: Third Level Obscure, this one was pretty clear as there really isn't much on the film. Spielberg as a director makes me question the film's obscurity but with a IMDB and Wikipedia page so small it really does make me wonder how many people have seen it. Often when talking about Spielberg's horror films the references are Jaws, Duel, and Jurassic Park. But with a 5.8 rating on IMDB it may not be because little know of it, but rather because it's not good and not referenced for that matter. I may be over-analyzing this, but still something to think about.

The reasoning as to why Something Evil and The Stone Tape aren't on Netflix might be because they are made for TV films but still, they give off a more positive feeling in being obscure based on the limitations in being able to see them than the other two recommendations. But the fact you can't even buy Something Evil on amazon makes it seem rather obscure, that I may have to resort to a VHS copy on Ebay just to watch the film. Never mind that, I just looked and I can't even buy it on Ebay. I'm torn between the two. The Stone Tape feels the furthest away from anything I've ever heard of but why haven't I heard of Spielberg's early horror film, and is it even possible to watch? This is giving me a headache.

But I have to pick a winner...

I'm giving it to Ronald Oliver who recommend Something Evil.

This was really hard and if I hadn't of already promised two DVD's in the other contest I'd of given one also to Jay who recommended The Stone Tape, just because they were so close. Ultimately though it came down to the fact that Something Evil is entirely out of print which makes it really obscure, especially for a Spielberg film. Now it's just a matter of being able to find the film and watch it.

Thank you to all those who entered, it made me life a little better. I'll probably at some point or another watch all the recommended films as they all managed to be obscure and intriguing. If you still want a copy of the DVD there's a couple ways to go about it. The first is click the banner above this post to purchase a DVD of the film or as it is available for digital download.

The other way is entering my second contest. I'm giving away two DVD's so your chances are even better. Actually outstanding as like last time no one has yet to enter. Here is the official contest page. But a quick summary, all you have to do is write a mini review of the film Black Sabbath and send it to me. It is due Tuesday August Seventh and a I'll also promote the blog/site/twitter account of anyone who enters. So you win a little bit either way.

Thanks again for all the entrants and for all the support.

Three Stories...Two DVD's

The Perfect House Getaway (or as it really is The Perfect House DVD contest) has officially ended with four contributions. I'll be reviewing the films over the next few days to see which one is the most obscure. I'll of course justify my reasoning and the winner will be announced either tomorrow or Thursday.

I have two more DVD's to giveaway though that does not mean two more contests. That means one more contest with two possible winners. This contest is a little more difficult and I'll give you a two week deadline to submit so that you have more time.

As I used you last time to help me find a new TD review, I shall use you this time for my own personal reviews. If you are a follower to my blog you'll notice a good solid three months without a review posted, if your not I'll update you and say I haven't posted a review in three months. Not including the Horror Shorts. This is due to a lack of energy and time to watch and write a review weekly. I'm aiming for an August re-start but we'll see.

Anyways the contest isn't too complicated. Since The Perfect House is an anthology film and it is the reason this contest even exist the contest is to write a mini review for one of my favorite Italian horror anthology films, Black Sabbath. Before everyone panics the review no where near needs to be as long as mine are and you don't have to follow my format (summary, plot/horror, acting/cinematography, misc stuff/closing). Simply I want a micro review of each story in the film (for those who haven't seen it there is three).

Here are the rules:

~ A micro review of the film Black Sabbath
~ The review must address all three short stories in the film, "The Wurdalak", "The Drop of Water", and "The Telephone", as well as a mention of Boris Karlof as the host.
~ Minimum of one paragraph (lets say seven sentences) and a maximum of three (so no more than twenty one sentences total)
~ The review format is entirely up to you
~ You don't have to love the film or hate it to win
~ You don't have to be a follower of my blog to contribute
~ The film review is due Tuesday August 7th

Send your review to my email address at bleedingdead22@yahoo.com with the the subject being Black Sabbath Micro Review. As I mentioned in the rules you don't have to like the film to win, if you hate it that's fine. My judgement of the review will not be how much you agree with me on the film but how well your review is written and such. So basically it's an English contest. But with two winners so it's not too bad if your the only two that enter.

Also there's a bonus prize...for everyone who participates. I'll post your Micro reviews on my blog with a link to your site or blog or twitter. Therefore even in doing the work and not winning you'll have at the least a link for those who did read the review and did like it. You get more followers and I have an excuse to be lazy for the next two weeks, I believe it works out fair. And don't stress too much on the technical merit of your review, I'm not an editor and half my stuff is a grammatical holocaust so don't worry that much. The most important part is likely the voice and in how you present your opinion.

The Perfect House DVD Contest

Before anyone freaks out don't worry that Advertisement won't be up there long. I'm just going to run it through the three to four weeks of contest that I'm having and it's basically there for those of you who are interested in purchasing a copy of the DVD if you don't win one of the three free copies I have to give away.

Speaking of which, as of this moment no one has yet to enter, which is not good. You still got a good five days to enter and as I said at this moment even if you recommended me Insidious your chances of winning are awesome with the overall lack of participation in this contest.

To refresh your memory here's the contest:

~ Recommend me an Obscure Haunted House film for my TD reviews
~ Leave your film in the comment section
~ One film per person
~ Don't have to be a follower on my blog to enter
~ The contest ends Monday July 23rd

The contest is easy. Maybe some of the hesitation is that I'm giving away an Independent film that none of you have seen. While I don't have review right at this moment (it's coming) the two I've seen on IMDB tell you to see it, as well as the review on BrutalAsHell.com, which of course isn't past mentioning is flaws but encourages you to support indie filmmakers. And in this case you don't even have to do anything...you can support them for free.

Remember you may contact me at Bleedingdead22@yahoo.com if you have any questions or want to submit your film recommendation that way it works too. You may also do it on twitter account.

The Perfect House Getaway

I'm doing a DVD giveaway. I know the title says Getaway but dammit I cannot afford to send myself on vacation let alone you. I apologize. Anyways, I was contacted last week by Mona Elyafi at ILDK Media to participate in a DVD giveaway for the film The Perfect House.

"Written/Produced by Kris Hulbert and Co-directed by the latter and Randy Kent, "The Perfect House" retraces the horrific history of a seemingly perfect house via three separate tales of horror skillfully bound together by one principal frame plot and one central character: the (perfect) house. Each of the three short stories  - "The Storm", "Chi-ken" and "Dinner Guest" - about previous home owners are inspired by the genre's most famous time periods."

I have three DVD's to giveaway and there is no such catch or anything. These DVD's were simply given to me for this purpose only and I have no intent of trying to earn money off you in such way. It's simply a contest. To be honest I'm not sure how this gonna work seeing how I have only forty one (new one today!) followers and less than half that in comments. Therefore if any of you are even reading is beyond me but we can give it a shot.

The contest is simple. As you know I'm a Retro Reviewer for Truly Disturbing. Often part of my struggle at getting a review on that site is my lack of good Retro films to review. Of course I watch old horror movies on a daily basis but I don't want to post just anything. And some of the stuff I've been posting recently has seemed at little to 'known' for what I originally intended. The first DVD will go to the person who finds me the most Obscure Haunted House film, in honor of the film in title. I likely won't have time to watch all the films (that is if anyone even enters) therefore the IMDB page better be convincing at the obscurity to the film. For example if you were to recommend something like Ghoulies don't get your hopes at winning, but when you whip out something like DeathBed: The Bed that Eats than you have a better chance at getting a free DVD.

The rules:

 - One film recommendation per person.
 - If two people recommend the same film the person who leaves the comment first gets it.
 - Leave your film in the comment section below.
 - You don't have to be a follower on my blog to win.
 - You have until next Monday to enter.

This contest looks pretty crappy doesn't it, and it's obvious that I'm using you as a pawn to do my job. But you can get over it because your getting a free DVD for it. This is the first of three contests and I'm hoping they get more difficult as they go along but we'll see. Also look out for a review of the film in a few weeks from now. If you have any questions you can contact me at bleedingdead22@yahoo.com.

Friday the 13th

For irrelevant news I bought a NES. Why? Because I saw a youtube video of the old school Friday the 13th NES game and realized how much I wanted to play it. Don't worry I only spent thirty bucks on both the game and the Retro Top Loader Console system, I didn't go too spontaneous (Trust me, it could of been worse).

I've been nostalgic for my childhood video game systems lately. A NES is actually a little before my time but Nintendo 64's are unreasonably expensive and I'm not into Playstation all that much. Therefor I bought a game system that I'm not even sure is a true to gamer's heart NES but I know that you can play NES off it. Which is all I care about, as I'm not a video game connoisseur. Now if I was purchasing a Suspiria double feature set I'd be a little bit more picky about what the special edition entails. This however I just wanted to play for fun.

I'm sure a good set of you are wondering why the fuck she wasted a minute and twenty four seconds of your life reading this post. And the truth is I have no answer. This quite possibly could be the most irrelevant post of all the irrelevant post Friday's. But it is Friday the 13th, the last one of the year, and I had to post something.

Happy Irrelevant Post Friday/Follow Friday/Friday the 13th. Whichever is relevant to you.

Blight Night

It's Friday, happy Irrelevant Post/Follow Friday, first off. Second I was on a podcast! I'm excited about it, and a little happy that even though I'm not posting anything people still check out my blog occasionally. The podcast is Blight Night, episode nine, and is hosted by Rigarmorty. You may follow him on twitter or his blog that gives you links and a summery of his podcast. His shows can also be downloaded on Itunes. Last week my blogger/twitter friend Drymonema was on it. So you listen to that one as well.

I'm not directly on the show, as in you cannot hear my voice. But he talks briefly about my blog and a little bit for Truly Disturbing. He does get my sex confused but that's alright most people are still unsure that I am a female. Regardless expect an update in six weeks where he follows up the show with six questions for me.

Holiday Horrors: Four Twenty Past Midnight

It's four twenty and it'd be wrong if my favorite month didn't follow in the tradition of my other favorite month (October) at succeeding at being generally crappy. I love Halloween and that ended in a horrible night I don't care to relive and today is just getting worse by the hour. I really hoping it gets better, the national stoners day aside and all. If I didn't have to work a double shift I'd stay home and watch horror movies for the rest of the day.

Anyways I'm just here to say Happy Four Twenty.

And if you're in disagree to the day or the act or whatever...

Chucky says fuck off.

Happy Four Twenty/Follow Friday/Irrelevant Post Friday. Whichever is relevant to you.

Real Life Horror: Irrational Fears

Happy Follow Friday and I'm not dead. I'm aware that I've not only been more horrible about posting than usual but I've also been horrible about Follow Friday. I just fell a little bit behind this month. I'm sorry, I would like to promise that I'll be more committed from here on out but if that doesn't happen than I'll have lied to you on top of not doing it. Therefore just know that I have full intent to do so but it may not happen. But I will try, I'm watching three films this weekend, hopefully four.

Besides that it's Irrelevant Post Friday and I thought I'd share with you my fears. Not in a horror film related sense but in an actual real life fear. There's three that are consistent and always anxiety provoking. And of course they are all irrational.

Number Three: The Royal Gorge Bridge

I'm not even afraid of heights per say but this bridge I find rather upsetting. I went here once as a kid and not only do they allow cars to drive over the bridge while you walk but there really is nothing stopping anyone from running up behind me and throwing me over the side of it. This is a reoccurring thought I had a child which would keep me up a night. It's irrational, why would anyone want to throw a ten year old over a bridge? Who knows but it upsets me.

Number Two: Animatronics That Don't Move

It makes absolutely no sense, I know. More logically the ones that move should prove more fear as they resemble more realism, but no it's only when they are still that I start to lose it. In particular the animatronic T-rex on the Jurassic Park Ride at Universal Studios. If it ever broke down when I was in it I'd probably cry. Just looking for pictures of this thing my phone vibrated and I about pissed myself and flew out of my seat. It simply just freaks me out.

Number One: People/Social Contact

There's clearly something wrong with my wiring, not only do I seek out to be afraid being an avid horror lover as I am but my real life fear is something I come in contact with DAILY, forcing me to induce fear often. It's likely the most irrational fear of them all but I argue that if you can be afraid of something you drink (water) or spiders than I'm entitled to be afraid of people. People are much more capable of hurting you than a spider, physically or worse emotionally. I'm a social-phobic to the extent of having Social Anxiety Disorder, which includes a lot of strange fears like public restrooms but also the common public speaking. That cartoon picture is scarily acurate, that's every thought, with every person, all day. I'm don't have it as bad as some do, I leave the house, but I do have bad anxiety from it and if the situation proves so I can go into an anxiety attack.

If you are reading post your own irrational fears. Or rational.

Women In Horror: Scream Queens Part II

February is an odd month; it doesn't follow the basic calender system, it gets an extra day every four years; a groundhog has his day; it celebrates African Americans, women, and throws in the most pointless holiday of the year, Valentines Day. BLEH. Not that all these things are bad by any means, it's simply that they have nothing in common but the month of February. It is Women in Horror Month however, in relevance to this blog. Few people are still uncertain of my gender but I am a woman, who loves horror so it all works out.

I'm not really sure what to do for Women in Horror month, I do know I'll be posting randomly throughout the month, on Follow Friday no less, but in specific I cannot say. Regardless thereof I thought I'd address a few not forgotten Scream Queens on my top five list last October. It's not so much as I didn't consider them Scream Queens it's just that they slipped my mind.

Rose McGowan (Scream, Planet Terror, Charmed)

I'm a tad bit disappointed in myself for missing Rose McGowan on my Honorable mentions list. I love Scream and Planet Terror and as to how I managed to forget Robert Rodriguez's zombie film staring a one-legged-gun Rose McGowan is quite disturbing and disappointing. Regardless how can you not love her? She's beautiful, funny, and she plays the throwaway friend and the final girl, rare for most Scream Queens as they are usually typecast as either or. McGowan also has a long running stance on the TV show Charmed, which really isn't quite horror but like Ghost Whisper it has its moments.

Ingrid Pitt (The Vampire Lovers, The Wicker Man)

I'm not entirely familiar with Ingrid Pitt, besides knowing that she played in the Carmilla adaption The Vampire Lovers and segarded a legacy as a Gothic horror icon as seductive vampire Marcilla and as Countess Dracula. Hammer Horror actress Pitt survived the Holocaust in a Nazi concentration camp to go on to become one of the most gorgeous and voluptuous horror actresses of all time. Ashely Greene has nothing on her.

Barbara Steele (Black Sunday, Dark Shadows Revival, Nightmare Castle)

I'll admit back in October I was ignorant to Barbara Steele as a Scream Queen, having not seen Black Sunday until as of recently. But it's easy to say those wide eyes of hers have locked me into addiction as I'm not now seeking out her films, especially those with collaboration from Bava. Steele is stunning and admirably a great actress, playing the innocence and the evil so well. Captivating beauty she's the Italian Horror Scream Queen.

Honorable Mentions: I feel that Daria Nicolodi is also unregarded as a Scream Queen. Maybe not the final girl so much but in recognition shes in a good portion of Argento films including, Opera, Phenomena, and his essential giallo Deep Red, as well as Bava's Shock. Maybe not a Scream Queen so much as just a honorable woman in horror.

Friday the 13th

It's Friday the 13th so it's only appropriate that I post a Jason Voorhees photo on my blog...

Still a Freddy girl, sorry.

Happy Friday the 13th/Irrelevant Post Friday/Follow Friday on Twitter.
